Praise the f*#king GRIZ

Dec 14, 2009

So here I am. A little room in Fernie, BC. In the morning I'll wake up, surrounded by mountains, burried in snow. If this isn't life, I don't know what is.

It's snowing like mad outside. Praise the Griz. Love the Griz. Thank the Griz. Thank you thank you thank you. I'm forever your slave.

peace&love.
I'll destroy some pow for you in the morning.

Pissed Up.

Dec 9, 2009

Yo yo yo, staff meeting. Ticket checkers, assemble; destination: The Pub.

Backtrack, 18 hours. I'm freezing my ass off at my first day of work. Ticket checking seems like an amusing job, assuming there are some tickets to check. If there are people to talk to, things to do.. The job is interesting. If it's cold as Canada seems to be, well, people just don't show. Anyways, what with ride breaks, discussion, and lunch, the day went by fast and fun. I was impressed.

Then, we hit The Pub (original name =S) for a ticket checking mastersession. Turns out, I got pissed, might have kicked some randoms car, sucked at pool, and sucked at bingo. No big deal. Anyways, I work again tomorrow, 8:15am. Yay.

Here's Whatsup.

Dec 8, 2009

So I've honestly been having so much fun here in Fernie; haven't really had the time to hit this blog thing up, but here's the lowdown on the past week.

The Grand Central Hotel is truthfully the best place I could possibly have chosen to stay. I recommend it to anyone who plans on spending a season in Fernie. Living in such close proximity of thirty other people brings endless fun.

The highlight of the week was Mogul Smoker, an annual local party. It was straightup ruckus. There were lots of people there, and I mean lots... I couldn't tell you quite how many lots was, because I was so fucked up, but it was a couple hundred at least. The party was a good 7km into the bush, but there was a roaring fire and a pumpin' Dj. It was a wicked night. It didn't help that my job orientation was early the next morning...

There was a good dump of snow on Friday, and the hill opened officially on Saturday. It was a wicked day of powder, and I had so much fun that I forgot to take any pictures. Sunday was frozen and icy and miserable; at least in comparison to Friday. In truth, it wasn't that bad, but after a nice fluffy day of powder, the hardpack was a little disappointing. Today was pretty good, found some nice launchers in the Currie Bowl.

I'll be taking more photos from now on... adding a little more visual and a little less pointless talk. As they say, a picture speaks a thousand words.

peace&love,
Connor Bode

And There Was Snow...

Nov 30, 2009

In fact, there was a ridiculous amount of snow.

The town was dry. The drive up to the hill was unimpressive. Even at the base of the chairlift, the lack of snow was truly upsetting. But, as I rode the chair up the hill, my mood lifted. Once high up on the ski hill, the snow was plentiful. The groom had been shredded and torn as usual, but with a little sense of adventure, powder was easily found.

After my wonderfully snowy day at the hill I had a chance to experience some Fernie nightlife. The atmosphere was perfect: hardwood floors, low lighting, an open mic, and NOFX rockin’ the P.A. when the mic was unused. I think I’ve finally found a home.

Coincidentally, I think I’m one of the few Canadians that feels the Fernie vibes. I honestly met one Canadian last night, among the slew of Australians, Brits, Dutch, and Kiwis.

Outside, the snow is falling.
